A new development for the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar will have a major benefit for patients in the Shannonside region.
That's according to Longford Councillor and recent chair of the Dublin Mid Leinster Health Forum, PJ Reilly, following the award of planning permission for a new out patients building for the facility.
Westmeath planners green lit the application this week for the 1,741 square metre development at the Hospital including medical consulting rooms, admin offices, storerooms, toilets and staff facilities.
Mullingar Hospital has been dealing with capacity issues over the last two years, with the new development hoped to expand services and infrastructure on site.
In a statement to Shannonside FM news, hospital management say the grant of permission is a massive step forward for the hospital and thanked the HSE Estates team for their work on the project.
Councillor Reilly says both staff and patients will benefit from this decision in the long term
It is badly needed , the services will be there now, and I do think it's good to see such a substantial building and investment for the health services in both Longford and Westmeath because this is our area here , and I do think it's good to see the HSE putting this investment into the area.
It's going to be good in the times to come for patients in both Longford and Westmeath.
