Planning permission has been granted for two separate apartment developments in Athlone.
The applications have been greenlit by Westmeath planners and will see 55 new residential apartments at two separate locations in the town.
Ledbro Limited had applied to local planners last year for the demolition of a two-storey public house for the construction of two 5 storey mixed use blocks to house apartments.
The plans include 29 residential apartments, one retail unit, an amenity space along with a basement car park at the site of a derelict pub on Connaught Street.
The permission was granted with 21 conditions attached including the payment of a deposit or insurance bond of €126,000 and a developer contribution over €46,000.
Separately in Athlone, a similar development for the provision of 26 apartments on Brideswell Street has also received the go-ahead.
John Killian made the application in 2021 for the project that would see the demolition of 2 single storey buildings and the construction of a 4 story apartment block and a stand-alone 3 storey block of 6 one bedroom apartments.
The 20 apartments would be split into 4 one bedroom units and 16 two bed apartments.
Also included in the development is the construction of a semi basement car park with provision of 19 car parking spaces, amenity space, communal open space and bicycle parking.
The project was approved with 10 conditions attached such as a rule that calls for occupation controls in order to assure adequate and fair access to the homes.
