Planning permission has been granted for the development of new guest accommodation at a well known Boyle building. Rockingham Rentals Ltd had sought permission from Roscommon County Council for the change of use of Tangier House at the crescent in the town centre. The application would see the change of use from a building containing eight apartments to guest accommodation containing eight self catering guest rooms. The plans were the source of opposition from some locals who highlighted concerns over the properties proximity to a local creche.
Submissions to the county council included issues surrounding an increase to traffic presenting a danger to parents and children going to and from the creche. Others raised the issue of privacy for children attending the creche, stating that windows in the building look out and onto the childcare facility. Roscommon planners gave the go ahead for the application with four conditions attached, including that the property be used for short term guest accommodation only and that no stay exceed two months.
