Planning permission has been granted for a substantial upgrade to a popular Athlone cinema.
Cinema Properties Limited are seeking an expansion to the IMC Cinema at the Golden Island Shopping Centre in the town.
The plans include an internal reconfiguration that would see the construction of 4 additional screens, a new cinema entrance and the re-location of 33 car parking spaces with the Shopping centre car park.
Also included in the application is a new restaurant adjoining the cinema building, new signage and demolition works to facilitate the new build.
The plans were granted with 10 conditions attached.
These included a developer contribution of €34,300 and a requirement that restaurant opening hours be provided to the Planning Authority before it commences business.
