Planning permission has been lodged with Longford County Council for the installation of a new ATM in Granard.
The move has been welcomed by local residents and businesses following a decision by Bank of Ireland to remove the towns only other 24 hour ATM when the branch shuts later this month.
The plans have been submitted by the Irish branch of Euronet 360 Finance Ltd for the machine to be placed at the front of Granard Credit Union on Barrack Street in the town.
The withdrawal of Bank of of Ireland from the town leaves the local credit union and post office as the last remaining financial institutions in Granard.
Longford County Planners are due to make their decision by the end of November.
