Planning permission has been granted for a major eco-tourism project in Roscommon.
The project aims to ensure low visitor density and environmental awareness at Yew Point on Hodson Bay.
Planning applications were submitted by New Island Resorts Limited, for the development near the Hudson Bay Hotel on Lough Ree.
The development proposes to conserve and protect all existing woodland areas and natural environment.
Plans include the construction of 36 timber eco-cabins raised on stilts to conserve ground conditions in the wildlife.

The project also comprises the upgrade of the existing reception building and shop, along with an environmental induction area to immerse visitors in environmental topics.
The application was subject to a number of submissions from the public including concerns around traffic levels and the effect the development could have on local wild life.
Another sought assurances that the general public would have access to the amenity once it was constructed.
Roscommon County planners approved the application with 22 conditions attached.
These include a provision that the eco cabins can only be used for short term accommodation and a developers contribution of close to €39,000.
