Planning permission has been lodged for an eco-tourism project in Roscommon.
The project aims to ensure low visitor density at Yew Point in Hodson Bay.
Planning applications were submitted by New Island Resorts Limited. The development proposes to conserve and protect all existing woodland areas and natural environment, as well as the construction of 36 timber eco-cabins raised on stilts to conserve ground conditions in the wildlife. The project also comprises the upgrade of the existing reception building and shop, along with an environmental induction area to immerse visitors in environmental topics. The existing parking space is to be refurbished with grasscrete to enhance its sustainability.
The planning application is supported by the Natura Impact Statement and is due to be decided upon by January.
