One of the country's largest construction firms is seeking planning permission to carry out works at a quarry in north Roscommon.
Mannok Cement has lodged plans with the local authority to carry out excavation works for shale rock over an area of over three hectares at the Arigna Shale Quarry.
The works will involve the deepening of the current quarry floor and will also see the material moved from the Roscommon-Leitrim border to a cement works in Ballyconnell, Co Cavan.
Planning permission is being sought for twenty years and the application is the second to be the company for the project in matter of months after a previous submission to the Council was deemed incomplete by planners in august.
A decision on the application is due by the 7th of November.
