Planning permission has been secured for a new 50 bed Community Nursing Unit in Roscommon.
County planners have given the go ahead for the long awaited works at the Sacred Heart Hospital on the Golf Links Road.
The project had been delayed over the last year due to concerns of a potential impact on some habitats, including bats.
Ecological studies conducted following the submission of the application have now been approved by the Roscommon planning department.
The plans include the demolition of 2 single storey accommodation units from the 1960s and the construction of the new two storey building.
Also provided for in the application are 68 new car parking spaces in place of the existing 33 spaces, and 15 bicycle spaces.
The planning permission has been granted to the HSE with 19 conditions attached.
