Longford County Council has submitted part 8 planning permission for a new walking and cycling trail on the outskirts of Longford Town.
The development would consist of a footpath and cycleway along the N63 between the Railway bridge on the Athlone Road and the Royal Canal at Cartrongeeragh.
The N63 Carrigeway will be realigned and narrowed to facilitate the development, with a high visibility pedestrian crossing on the Flancare roundabout.
An number of other pedestrian crossings will also be included on the route at the Royal Canal Greenway, Mastertech Business Park and any access routes to off road areas.
Existing junctions will be realigned in order to facilitate the cycling and pedestrian route.
The application will be decided on at an upcoming meeting of Longford Municipal District.
