Planning permission is being sought to construct a significantly seized solar energy project in Westmeath.
Thomas Flynn has applied for the installation of 20,000 photovoltaic panels at Newdown, The Downs, Westmeath.
The project would see the panels mounted on ground based frames on a total site area of over 9 hectares.
It's envisioned that the renewable energy infrastructure would generate 7 mega watts and would include the construction of 5 single storey buildings for use of inverter/transformer stations.
The application also includes the erection of two metre high wire mesh security fencing and three CCTV cameras.
The applicant has applied for a grid connection to the ESB Network for the transfer of electricity to the national power grid.
It's also noted in plans that the land will continue to be used for agricultural purposes, including the permission for small livestock to graze under and between the panels.
Westmeath County Planners will decide on the issue in March.
