A decision to refuse planning to convert a house to accommodate people with intellectual disabilities on the edge of Lough Ree in Longford has been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.
Last month Longford County Council refused planning permission to Galro Unlimited, who sought the material change of use of the house at Newtowncashel.
The home is located approximately 55 metres from the edge of the lake and the Council gave four reasons for refusal, including being within a Special Area of Conservation.
Council planners also highlighted that the proposed development may be visually obtrusive and would impact the visual amenity at the site.
The refusal has now been appealed to the planning inspectorate and a decision is due by the end of November.
