Irish Rail is seeking to build new accessibility infrastructure at a local train station. Iarnród Éireann Infrastructure have lodged the planning permission for the works at Longford Train Station on the Convent Road. The works would include the construction of a M.I.A.S. structure, a hybrid assembly of different concrete and steel elements to enable better access for those with mobility difficulties.
The structure would feature a pair of staircases, free standing lift shafts, support portals and a walkway, with plans also seeking the relocation of 14 car parking spaces and 1 EV charging point. If approved, the works will take place under the curtilage of a number of protected structures, with Longford County planners set to decide on the application in February.
