A local secondary school has lodged planning permission for works at a former printing press adjacent to the school.
Mean Scoil Mhuire in Longford Town are applying for retention of planning permission, change of use of the site and for further works at the former Turner's Print Works on Convent Road.
The Longford school leased the defunct printing company building in 2020 in order to provide essential classroom space to comply with social distancing regulations during the pandemic.
It allowed the school access to a further seven or eight classrooms for the school's 570 pupils.
The deal was designed as a temporary measure while the process to find a site for a new school build was progressed.
That site has now been identified by the Department of Education as a patch of land off the N4 outside the town, currently owned by the local authority.
In the meantime, the school's board of management are seeking permission for works at the leased Convent Road site.
These works include internal alterations to stairs, provision of a SEN unit and the addition of an AOV smoke ventilation unit to the front stairwell.
County planners will make their decision on the application in August.
