Ballinagare Community Centre have applied to Roscommon County Council for a single storey extension of the existing centre along with a multi use games area sports surface.

The plans call for the demolition of a shed on the north of the site, the construction of the 90 bed facility and 81 residential units as well as a coffee shop and ESB substation.

The project proposes to build 86 new housing units as well as a creche in Monksland.

Planning has been granted by Leitrim County Council with five conditions attached.

The submission proposes to convert the Keshcarrigan Garda Barracks and site to Community Resource Use, which will incorporate a museum and working hub.

Peter Byrne had successfully applied to build 26 homes at Drimanure in Abbeyshrule, with the homes consisting of 2 storey detached houses, with permission granted in 2005.

In a letter to county planners, the applicants, Croghan Community Projects Group, say the amenity will have numerous benefits for the area.

County planners are due to decide on the project by October.
