Planning has been approved for a major upgrade in a Longford primary school.
St Joseph's National School lodged an application last year for an extension comprising of a two-classroom special needs unit.
The special needs unit includes a central activity space, multi-sensory room, office, storage, and toilets.
The project consists of the demolition of the existing toilets and the relocation of gas tanks, as well as the establishment of new, raised pedestrian crossings, two new roller gates and appropriate road signage to Dublin Road.
Also included in the application was the permission to build two new hard play areas, to the north-west of the existing school buildings.
The permissions were approved this week with 10 conditions attached.
