The refusal of planning permission for the installation of a telecom mast in a picturesque Westmeath village has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

On Tower Ireland Limited had been seeking the permission for the 24 metre monopole at Pearsonbrook in Glasson, but were refused by Westmeath County Council at the start of the year.

The plan included the support structure carrying antennas, dishes, remote radio units associated equipment together with ground based equipment cabinets, fencing and a concrete plinth.

The structure was intended to be used for wireless data and broadband services.

Local objections highlighted issues with the effect the mast would have on the visual amenity, while others stated that the existing telecom infrastructure in the region is sufficient.

On Tower Ireland Limited have now appealed the refusal to the higher planning authority.
