Plans have been lodged to turn the former armoury at Longford's Connolly Barracks over to educational use.
Longford & Westmeath Education and Training Board, who neighbour the Ordnance Building, have lodged the plans that would see the construction of a new two story extension to the existing building.
As part of the development, a previous existing single-storey extension to front of the building would be demolished and a oil tank removed.
Internal walls and partitions would also be demolished to create new educational rooms.
As part of proposed works, the existing gates from the Barracks to the Battery Road would be replaced and a previously blocked opening in the wall between the site and the LWETB building would be re-opened.
The former Barracks has been subject to several studies and early stage plans for use since the Council took it over in 2014, with the LWETB planning application the most significant move so far.
County planners will make their decision at the end of March.
