Plans have been lodged for a major new housing development in Mullingar.
DSPL Limited are seeking to build 212 homes in Rathgowan on the outskirts of the town.
A planning application was submitted to the Higher Planning Authority for the development on 6.37 hectares of land east of the existing Ardilaun Heights estate.
The proposed development will consist of 212 homes and apartments along with a creche.
The units include 107 two & three storey houses, 86 two and three bed duplex units in 8 three storey blocks and 19 one and two bed apartments accommodated in a four storey building.
Other proposed works on site include the relocation of existing underground surface water attenuation tank, surface car parking for 290 vehicles, bicycle parking and surface landscaping
Vehicle access to the development will be off the R394, via Rathgowan Park while a pedestrian & cyclist entrance is also proposed onto the Ashe Road
Due to the size of the development, the application is considered a strategic housing development and therefore bypasses Westmeath County Council and is decided on by the higher planning body.
An Bord Pleanála will decide on the application in October.
