A Roscommon community group has officially launched plans for a memorial to the county's most famous GAA captain.
Jimmy Murray captained the Roscommon senior football team to victory in the 1943 & 1944, the county's only wins in it's history.
The Knockcroghery man passed away in 2007 at the age of 89 and is remembered as one of the GAAs most decorated footballers.
A local community group in Knockcroghery have come together to install a monument to the well known Roscommon man.
Comprised of members of Murray family and local residents, the group plan to have a monument carved out of a solid block of limestone by sculptor Mark Feeley.
The committee officially launched their plans at a special meeting held in Knockcroghery over the weekend.
