A plaque honouring one of the men killed during the rescue of Don Tidey in Leitrim has been unvieled in his home village.
Private Patrick Kelly of the 6th Infantry Battalion was shot and killed in Derrada Woods in Leitrim in 1983 while he took part in the operation to rescue the kidnapped businessman. Private Kelly was killed alongside Garda Gary Sheehan by members of the Provisional I.R.A during the mission. The County Longford Historical Society unveiled the plaque this week in the Garden of Remembrance in Ballinamuck Village. Don Tidey was held captive by the P.I.R.A for 23 days in Derrada Woods near Ballinamore.
