Councillor Domnick Connolly is calling for a complete reoganisation of Fine Gael in Roscommon, after failing to win a Dáil seat for the third general election in a row.

It’s now 13 years since they won a Dáil seat in the county, when Denis Naughten and Frank Feighan were elected in Roscommon-South Leitrim in 2011.

The closure of Roscommon’s A&E that year was a major blow to the party locally.

Senator Aisling Dolan and Dympna Daly-Finn were unsuccessful candidates for Fine Gael in Roscommon-Galway at the weekend.

Dolan replaced south Roscommon councillor John Naughten after he died during the campaign.

Councillor Connolly says it was a difficult campaign for the party, as he told Eoghan Murphy.
