A popular Strokestown resident's funeral is taking place this morning after she died from motor neurone disease. Tributes are being paid to Nicola Murphy after her untimely death. Nicola, who lived in Scramogue, died on Friday at the age of 45. The Ahascragh native passed away peacefully in Roscommon Hospice. She was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in September 2023, and a fundraising appeal raised over €83,000 to assist with her care.

Her husband is Joe Murphy, a former Roscommon county councillor, and they have two sons, Conor and Oisin. Nicola's funeral Mass will take place in St Anne's Church, Scramogue, at 11 o'clock this morning, with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
