A post mortem is due to take place on the body of a man discovered in Carrick-on-Shannon this morning. The body of the man, believed to be in his 20s, was discovered at around 8.30am at the Costello Memorial Chapel in the town.
It's understood that forced entry was required to gain access to the body which it is understood may have been in the chapel for more than 24 hours.
The scene remains sealed off this afternoon as investigations continue. It's not yet clear if the man is from the locality, or how he gained access to the chapel which has been closed recently due to streetscape works being carried out in the town.
The body of the man has been removed from the scene and a post mortem will be carried out at Sligo University Hospital which will determine the future direction of Garda investigations.
