The preferred route for the N4 Mullingar to Longford Bypass project will be selected in the coming weeks. That's the view of Junior Transport Minister James Lawless as he attended meetings in Longford yesterday. Work on the project was paused over 2 years ago, with fears the design process and works would not materialise. As part of the TII Road Project allocations for 2024, 1.4 million euro in funding was allocated to Westmeath County Council to refine the route selection process.
The project has been the source of dozens of representation from local Councillors, Senators and TDs calling for progress on the route in order to increase road safety. Minister Lawless states that once the preferred route is selected, it will then go to a public consultation:
