Plans to announce the preferred route corridor for the Athlone to Galway section of the Dublin to Galway greenway are on target for the last weeks of this year.
Project co-ordinator Michael Kelly of Westmeath Council says a lot of progress has been made in the last six months and it's hoped an announcement can be made at the end of November or early December.
Public consultation on five different routes between Athlone and Galway were held in hotels across the region as part of the 1st public consultation, but the second phase had to be held online because of Covid restrictions.
Michael Kelly says they are looking forward to meeting communities again face-to-face when the preferred route is announced towards the end of this year.
