A pregnant woman missed an appointment in hospital after a train failed to stop at a Leitrim station earlier this year.

The complaint is one of over 80 recorded by Irish rail relating to the Sligo-Dublin service so far this year.

The Sligo-Dublin service carries thousands of passengers every day and serves stations such as Boyle, Dromod, and Longford.

Details released to Shannonside FM reveal issues with seats, anti-social behaviour and tickets are among the most common complaints.

One complaint details how a pregnant woman going to Dublin for an antenatal appointment was left on the platform at Dromod after she claimed the train failed to stop.

A parent also complained that their daughter was unable to get off a train in Longford as the doors would not open in their carriage.

The train travelled to Dromod and her daughter and other passengers similarly affected were left very distressed.

Irish Rail also received a complaint from a passenger who got a headache in March from the seats vibrating too much on board and suggested a beer mat wedged in between the seats may resolve the issue.

Overcrowding in trains also features in the complaints - including people sitting on floors despite having pre-booked seats

One commuter with a broken leg who booked a seat from Mullingar to Maynooth was also forced to stand due to overcrowding and was seeking a refund.

10 anti-social behaviour complaints were also made about the trains service including an incident of a group of passengers who got on in Carrick-on-Shannon were making sectarian and racist remarks and were playing music at a high volume and a parent whose 16 year old daughter was verbally assaulted by an older man

In a statement to Shannonside FM, Irish Rail says "earlier this year, the company began recruiting the final phase of on-board Customer Service Officers to ensure that all our services will have customer service personnel on board, and new fleet, customer communications, and station information and signage will be built around enhancing the customer experience at all times."
