The president of Carrick Chamber of Commerce has highlighted the importance of cash.
It comes as customers around the region struggled to make purchases following Storm Éowyn, with card readers in many shops and businesses temporarily out of action amidst power cuts.
Recent regulations adopted by the European Parliament are aiming to introduce a total ban on cash transactions exceeding 10,000 euro, as well as supervision over transactions above 3,000 euro.
The measures come in an effort to combat money laundering, but are also prompting discussions on the need for cash as an option of payment.
