Health promotion measures designed to encourage breastfeeding should be halted because of the cost-of-living crisis, according to an Irish doctor.
They mean supermarket points and money-off coupons can't be applied to formula used to feed babies up to the age of six months.
The cost of formula has risen by as much as 5 euro a tub in the past year, and one doctor and new mother is warning it's impacting on babies' health and nutrition.
Dr. Máire Treasa Ní Cheallaigh says parents can't afford the prices being charged, and price caps should be considered.
