The price of a home in west Roscommon is the cheapest in the country. New figures from the Central Statistics Office show the value of residential properties throughout the Shannonside region. The median price of home in the F45 Eircode area, which includes Ballaghaderreen and Castlerea, was 140,000 euro in the year to July. This was the least expensive in Ireland, while the most expensive was Dublin 6, at 750,000 euro. It was 177,500 in the F52 region, which includes Boyle and other areas of north Roscommon.

The median price in the F42 area, which includes Roscommon town and Strokestown, was a lot higher, at 230,000. It was higher again in the Athlone and south Roscommon area - or N37 - at 269,500. In the Carrick-on-Shannon and surrounding area, known as N41, it was 170,000. In the Longford area, or N39, it was 173,400.
