There is an anxiety among priests preaching on sensitive issues according to a local bishop.
The fear of offending someone and finding themselves under attack is a significant concern to clergy says Bishop of Elphin, Kevin Doran.
Peer pressure from those both inside and outside the faith is causing both priests and parishioners concern.
Speaking during his Easter address, Bishop Doran described how he believes that many priests fear offending people or coming under fire when discussing current sensitive issues.
Addressing the congregation, Bishop Doran said that we live in a society that places a strong emphasis on respect for diversity.
However he continued that sometimes it seems Christians don't feel that they have permission to be different.
The Bishop of Elphin concluded his Easter message stating the importance of building a society which is 'consistent with respect for the dignity of every person'.
