The principals of St Mel's college and Mean Scoil Mhuire in Longford town say the amalgamation of the two schools is hugely positive.
It was announced yesterday evening the two single sex schools will become one co-educational school going forward.
The new school will be known as Coláiste Mel agus Mhuire and will be based on the St Mel's site.
