The Irish Prison Service has welcomed works at a car park in Longford town which will see the end of vans parked outside the courthouse in the town.
Longford County Council has altered the layout of the Annally Car Park adjacent to the courthouse to allow prison service vehicles approach the rear of the court building unhindered, rather than parking on the street.
The work was carried out in the last number of weeks after a request in February of this year by members of the municipal district.
The local authority has also confirmed the installation of over a dozen large concrete blocks is aimed at preventing any illegal parking in the busy facility.
The prison services is hopeful that the development will assist with ensuring safe and secure custody and Councillor Seamus Butler feels it should make a welcome difference to the town centre.
