A project to rejuvenate the 'Mummers' tradition in Co Leitrim will officially begin this weekend with a meitheal on the farm of Tommy Earley on the shores of Lough Allen.
The project is supported by the Heritage Council of Ireland and the Leitrim Council Heritage office and will see communities growing oats, learning how to make mummers costumes, and join mumming groups to go house-to-house in December.
Local artists are also being commissioned to create new Mummers plays, music, songs and dances.
The sowing of the oats at Mount Allen Eco Farm on Sunday afternoon will kick off the project and farmer Tommy Earley says it should be an enjoyable experience…
