An online survey will begin today to gauge public support for the pedestrianism of part of the town centre in Carrick on Shannon.
Leitrim county council says its felt the experience of visitors and shoppers can be greatly enhanced through pedestrianisation, and it would provide opportunities for space to be used more efficiently and thoughtfully to provide a more welcoming feel for the centre.
The local authority says it's considering closing off some areas to traffic in the town centre on a pilot basis and the closures could be on a 24 hour, or set times, for the duration of the pilot.
The council adds that the proposed pedestrianisation area could create and important linkage between the new town centre carpark and the rest of the town centre, and could act as a feeder to increase footfall in areas such as the Market Yard, St George's Terrace, Bridge Street and Upper Main Street.
The online survey on the proposal will be available online through the council website and Facebook page from today until the 28th of this month.
