A Hong Kong businessman has received planning permission for fire safety works at a protected South Longford Structure.
Hau Yan Lee is seeking the works at the Newcastle House Hotel in Ballymahon.
The plans include the installation of fire stopping equipment, a new external fire escape route and upgrades to fire doors and windows to comply with modern fire safety requirements.
Also included in the application is a new universal toilet at ground floor level, a new water storage tank system and maintenance and repair works to the protected structure.
The application follows an announcement last year that the owner of the historic property adjacent to Centre Parcs was hoping to develop a multi million euro holiday park that could employ several hundred people.
The plan has been a approved with 8 conditions attached including one ruling that the area outside the property gate, be surfaced with tarmac in order to withstand the use of HGVs.
