A protest targetting LGBTQ+ material in Longford Library has been condemned locally.
Multiple videos show protestors entering the library in the town centre and refusing staff requests to leave the premises.
Gardaí were called to the scene and ordered those involved to leave the premises, which they did after a period of non cooperation.
The incident also saw counter protesters gather outside the council run service.
The group are understood to be travelling across the region having already held demonstrations at Athlone and Roscommon Libraries.
Longford MD Councillor Uruemu Adejinmi criticised both the method and focus of the protest.
"It is something that is condemnable where another individual thinks that they have the right to dictate the lifestyle and the preference of others. It's totally unacceptable and everybody should be made to feel comfortable in their environment where they choose to live or however they choose to live. Any way to ensure that people are supported to lead the life that they feel they deserve is something I would very much be in favour of. Nobody should be made to feel uncomfortable in any environment".
