A protest is currently being held on the Roscommon/Offaly border to highlight flooding along the River Shannon.
Locals and farmers will stage a demonstration on the bridge in Banagher to highlight rising water levels and to call for one authority to manage the river.
The protest is being run by the Save our Shannon group who were set up by the communities living along the river who've suffered from flooding over the years.
It follows concerns up to 5,000 bales of hay and silage may be lost due to flooding along the river this Summer.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, secretary of the group Emily Young says the water is destroying vital farm land:
"There's approximately two feet of water, in or around two feet of water, on the canal. The base of the grass is rotting. It is literally black at this stage, because the water from the Shannon is polluted water. So the idea of conserving anything in the Shannon right now is in a ditch because the flora and fauna is destroyed, wildlife is destroyed and you have all the birds dying."
