The provision of MRI services at Mullingar Hospital has taken a major step forward today. The new purpose built building housing the service has now officially been handed back to the Hospital following construction. Today will see the imaging equipment powered on for the first time in order for the set up to be complete.
Specialists will now go through the magnet ramp up process over the next number of weeks. The machine was supported and financed following huge fundraising from the 'Friends of Mullingar Hospital' group. The service itself will become active once a recruitment process is complete tin the coming weeks. Chair of the 'Friends of Mullingar Hospital', John McGrath, says the service will save the hospital a lot of money in the long run.
