A public consultation regarding flood defences in Carrick-on-Shannon will take place on November 7.
It comes 15 years after record floods caused millions of euro worth of damage to homes and businesses in the town.
At a recent meeting of the local authority, Sinn Féin councillor Cormac Flynn called on the council to accelerate the planning process.
He said while it's understandable such work takes time, the project should have commenced this year.
