Westmeath County Council is to begin a public consultation process for the next phase of public realm enhancement works in Athlone Town Centre.
The works are proposed to take place at Mardyke Street, Pump Lane and Sean Costello Street.
Westmeath council says the latest works will integrate seamlessly with the works carried out in recent years on Church Street and will see the same natural stone surface treatments, street furniture, and public lights improvements along Mardyke Street and Pump Lane.
The local authority is also proposing that Sean Costello Street be pedestrianised so as to create an open and inviting link between the retail areas in the town centre.
The council also says the works will allow for the unlocking of the currently derelict site at the former O' Neills pub which is a prominent gateway into the town centre.
Funding of over €4 million euro allocated under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund will allow the project to advance to construction in the next two years.
Plans of the proposed development are available for inspection at consult.westmeathcoco.ie/en and can be inspected or purchased at a fee at Municipal District of Athlone-Moate by appointment only.
The consultation period runs from the 29th March up to and including 27th April this year.
