People across Longford are being urged to come out and give blood today as part of World Blood Donor Day
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is calling on new and existing donors across the Shannonside region to attend the Longford clinic taking place today and tomorrow.
The IBTS is urgently appealing for increased donations after the national supply has fallen to just three days worth.
Director of Donor Services & Logistics Paul McKinney says there are plenty of spaces free for this evening's and tomorrow's donor clinic in the Longford Arms Hotel.
He's urged locals to fill every slot possible over the two days:
'The whole thing about blood donation and about the teams and the communities we come into every three months. It's all about community, it's all about the spirit which is so important in Ireland and it's about helping each other, going in seeing your friends having a chat getting that hour to socialise, the staff love it its a wonderful feeling, we're in the Longford Arms Hotel and they're are appointments free tonight and tomorrow night but we will absolutely take walk ins.''
A blood donation clinic will also be held in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel Athlone Westmeath on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
