A Longford councillor is urging motorists to report road collisions to Gardai to ensure local blackspots are dealt with.
This month's meeting of Granard MD heard funding applications for safety works will only be awarded to stretches which have a record of a number incidents occurring.
Councillor Colin Dalton made the appeal on the back of a joint motion with Councillor Padraic Brady which called for a safety scheme to be implemented at Doherty's Cross in Esker, Ballinalee.
The Fine Gael Representative says works are needed at a number of dangerous junctions and by reporting collisions it will help save lives:
When we look for funding, we check with Gardaí and they say one or two accidents have been reported while it could be 5 or 6 in reality.
So its very very important, this will save lives.
So I'm urging people where there are accidents to please report it to gardaí
Local reps and Longford coco can look for funding and make these junctions safer
