Members of the public with concerns over the Athlone to Galway Greenway are being urged to engage with the project team at a special event next week
Meetings are being held to allow landowners, farmers, cyclists and those in the hospitality industry to view the preferred route for the 205km stretch.
The Galway-Athlone National Cycleway Project is part of the Dublin to Galway Greenway Network, a coast-to-coast greenway and partial rail trail.
A number of events will be held across Galway next week, with the meetings culminating in an event at the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe on Friday the 31st of March from 3 to 8pm.
Project Co-Ordinator with Westmeath County Council, Michael Kelly says every effort is being made to avoid impacts on private lands:
"We've been meeting with landowners within the consultation areas to try defining a route around the perimeter of land holdings to minimise severance and connectivity to the state owned lands. It's roughly, in broad terms, 205 kilometres and it's a rough split of half and half, so half of the route will be on state owned land and half of the route will be on privately owned lands".
