Almost 25% of incidents logged on the M6 between Athlone and Ballinasloe up to September last year occurred in wet conditions. The figures were released by Transport Infrastructure Ireland following a Freedom of Information Request by Shannonside Northern Sound.
134 incidents were recorded between junctions 8 and 15 on the stretch, with 32 occurring in either wet or snowy conditions. The majority of incidents happened during the day, with just 18 logged as having occurred at night time in an unlit area. One major incident was recorded between Junction 13 and 14 this year, where the westbound stretch of the motorway was forced to close following a collision.
