The Chair of Roscommon Hospice hopes its new unit will be accessible to patients in the coming weeks as recruitment continues.
Although the eight-bed facility in Roscommon town is fully finished, Saolta Group confirmed to Shannonside Northern Sound that recruitment is still ongoing and the HSE are working on finalising a lease agreement.
The 6.3 million euro development was officially opened in November of last year and when operational will provide end of life care as well as day services, therapy rooms and a base for home care teams.
While it was initially hoped that the recruitment process would be fully complete by early April, it's understood a number of staff positions are still being advertised for.
Mike Smith of the Hospice Foundation says the HSE are working around the clock to get the facility open.
''Jobs are advertised in the medical papers in the last two and three weeks. So recruitment is ongoing at the moment. The HSE have worked veryhard in the last number of years to help us and these thing takes a bit of time but we are confident that we will get the staff.
We can put a timeframe on it but the HSE are working around the clock and recruitment has been advertised and once the people are in place we will be there.''
