Local GAA referees are being unfairly abused according to a well known former match official.
John Bannon, an All Ireland Final referee from Longford, made the claim following an incident at the weekend's Connacht club semi-final in Roscommon.
The match between local side Pádraig Pearses' and Mountbellew-Moylough on Saturday saw players from the Galway side surround and confront referee Jerome Henry after full time.
The official was escorted off the pitch by stewards after a series of verbal and physical interactions.
Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show today, the former Longford Referee says violence in the sport towards officials is a serious problem.
He says that referees are being unfairly targeted in what is already a very tough job.
