Concerned residents in a Leitrim Village are being urged to not to fall victim to misinformation and division in reaction to the housing of refugees locally.
Rooskey Native and Migrants Rights CEO John Lannon made the call over the ongoing debate about the placement of international protection applicants in Dromahair.
Residents had previously staged a protest in the Leitrim village last month, citing concerns over the lack of services in the area to deal with the jump in population, with the Department of Integration at the time delaying the move.
It was originally thought that they would be in place before Christmas, but residents confirmed yesterday that the Department of Integration have postponed the move until after Christmas.
In a statement to the Joe Finnegan Show, the Department says the arrival of applicants to Dromahair is 'not imminent' and that issues raised by the residents were brought to the relevant teams.
