Around 90 people protested against plans to accommodate 52 International Protection applicants in the town yesterday.

The Lough Allen Hotel in Drumshanbo has been home to 170 Ukrainians for over two years but they were told they would have to leave at the end of this month.

There is no clarity yet on whether the international protection applicants will be men, women or children.

Today's protest started outside Lidl  at Arm at 1pm before demonstrators marched down to The Square, where more speeches were given.

Officials from the Department of Integration are due to meet politicians within the next week to discuss the plans.

Locals had planned to march on Sunday calling for extra supports ahead of the arrival of International Protection applicants.

Up to 18 modular homes were delivered to Coole Village at 4am with HGVs blocking a local road in the area for several hours.

Locals have been criticising the lack of services in recent months following discussions around housing refugees in the town.
