Over 8 million euro has been allocated to Active Travel projects in the Shannonside FM region. The funds were confirmed by The Department of Transport today with a total of €8.4 million ring-fenced for 47 local projects. Active Travel Grants enable local authorities across Ireland to support the rollout of walking and cycling infrastructure, with a national total of €290 million announced.
14 projects in Longford are to share 3.5 million euro in grants, with the lion's share going toward the Battery Road Pedestrian and Cycle Scheme at 1.8 million euro. The N63 in Longford town has also been allocated €744,700 for continued works, while the Ballymahon Pedestrian Scheme received €200,000. Roscommon saw the next largest investment in Active Travel measures at 3 million euro, with Ballaghaderreen Town to €2 million of that allocation. Leitrim projects are to access €1.9 million, with a further €500,000 allocated through Other NTA Funding Streams. The latest round of funding will see over €1 billion worth of Active Travel Measures funded since its inception in 2020.
